The spyder 3 has a worse reputation than the 4, but I have worked with only an id3 pro.The X-Rite i1Display Pro, ColorMunki Display, NEC SpectraSensor Pro and Eizo (DataColor) EX1 are all current wide gamut colorimeters NOT spectrophotometers.
I can't really tell you Ruben, but is this the Spyder4 we're talking about? Is that the only instrument you use for calibration? If you are going to be messing with the thing constantly you might consider the PRO. On the cheap end the Colormunki display is absolutely the way to go if you have just a few calibrations you need to make (even if it's slow, using the x-rite software a calibration should only take 20-30 min maximum). Obviously the spyder4 doesn't have this issue. I have seen video of spyder 2s taking 8 hours for this kind of calibration. The id3 pro is a lot faster than I was expecting and most of the "thick" LUT profiles I create using large testcharts (1000+ patches) still only take at most an hour. One other note of import is that the colormunki is supposed to take measurements more slowly, I haven't worked with one I don't know if that's true.

The difference between the ID3 and the ID3PRO is that the X-rite software is supposed to be factory calibrated to the ID3 PRO using a measurement correction, which I'm trying to figure out how to export (it should be easy). There is no reason to spend money on the extras the id3 probe packages bring.
So if you are going to use the free software out there that is good: ArgyllCMS and DispcalGUI together! The x-rite software is very user friendly but not particularly powerful, the colormunki display doesn't work with the iProfiler program but is the same probe as the id3/id3 pro, which both work with the software.
